Kerry-Jane Wallart will explore how the motif of journeying in post-2000 Anglophone Caribbean literature evolves as both a response to and symptom of European colonization. Her lecture argues that travel here shifts into imaginary or dystopian realms – what could be called “pirate” travelling.

Join us for three days of bite-size talks where we will explore how superdiversity shapes cities and citizens, fostering new forms of urban innovation, social cohesion, and cultural transformation.

This international symposium interrogates received definitions of the archive as well as ‘what counts’ as archive in postcolonial and colonial multilingual contexts. Confirmed speakers are Alison Donnell (University of Bristol) and Ashleigh Harris (Uppsala University).

This study day investigates the intersection of affect, sound, and the postcolonial across different postcolonial and minority contexts. Confirmed speakers are Simona Bertacco (University of Louisville), Jason Wiens (University of Calgary) as well as sound artist Sophia Bauer.

The research unit CLIC welcomed CEREP members at VUB for a research exchange visit. This visit was also devoted to exploring possible research synergies between University of Liège and VUB in the fields of literary, literary translation, and intermediality studies.

CEREP member Bénédicte Ledent will introduce Caryl Phillips’s Radio Play "A Kind of Home : James Baldwin in Paris" and co-chair a panel discussion on audio drama.

Jason Wiens will be giving a hybrid lecture entitled "Archives, Audio, and Appropriation: Decentering Whiteness in Teaching Black and Indigenous Texts.” 

An international symposium on recent key developments in African and Afrodiasporic literary studies, co-organized by Ángela Suárez-Rodríguez, Daria Tunca, and Yasmine Ait Abbou.
